Obituary for Lonnie Casey
Lonnie Casey, age 59, of the Denton Valley community, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 14, 2012, at his home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born April 13, 1953, in Washington County, VA, a son of the late Jake and Mary Childress Casey. Lonnie was a lifelong resident of the area and loved to fish. He attended Spoon Gap Freewill Baptist Church and was a lifetime member of the Green Spring Fire Dept. He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, dad, papaw and a dear friend.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Charlie Casey.
Surviving are his loving wife of 37 years, Susie Montgomery Casey; one daughter, April “Ralph” Thompson and husband Travis of Lebanon, VA; two grandsons, Dillon and Clint Thompson; two brothers, Jeffrey Casey and wife Alisa of Saltville, VA, and Randy Casey and special friend, Betty Parris of Abingdon; his best friends, Bobby Neal, Mike Shaver, Johnny Aven and many more.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Hometown Hospice and home health nurse, Jessie for the care shown to Lonnie and his family.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 16, 2012, in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Herbert Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Montgomery Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mike Shaver, Bobby Neal, Randy Fleming, Johnny Aven, Earl Hicks and Frankie Childress. Honorary pallbearers will be the firemen of the Green Spring Fire Dept.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and anytime at the home.
