Dewey Morris Sweet, 83, passed away September 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving friends and companion.
Dewey retired from VDOT where he was employed by the structure and bridge division for 30 plus years.
Dewey was born November 14, 1940, to the late W.C. and Blanch Sweet. He loved woodworking, gardening, and being outdoors. He was a musician who loved playing his guitar and singing. In the later years he enjoyed swinging on his porch every day. Dewey attended Spoon Gap Free Will Baptist Church for many years and in recent years Damascus Road Baptist Church. Dewey was a good Christian man. He was loved by everyone who met him.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Ann Sweet, three sisters, and a nephew, Rodney Sweet.
Survivors include Paul Graham (Shirley) Sweet. He is also survived by several nephews, and his loving companion and best friend of 13 years, Jane Taylor and her family who loved him as their own.
The family will receive friends Monday, September 16, 2024, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Frost Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 P.M. at the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Herbert Bailey and Pastor Junior Gobble officiating. A committal service will be held Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Greenwood Cemetery in Abingdon, Virginia.
Paul Sweet, Wayne Harless, Stephen Holt, Steve Baumgardner, John Sweet, and Jarrod Sweet will serve as pallbearers. Benny Hayes, Stoney Stewart, Jamie Penley, Robert Counts, Albert Wright, and Noah Wright will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Thank you to the staff at Bristol Regional Medical Center 2 East for your kind and compassionate care for Dewey. A special thank you to Leisa Sweet and her father, Kelly Crosswhite and Joan Worley for helping and staying with Dewey during his illness.
