Donald Ray Fields


Abingdon, Va.


Donald Ray Fields, 82, of Abingdon, Va., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 14, 2021, at his home.


He was born in Narrows, Va., a son of the late Albert Monroe Fields and Muriel Elizabeth Fields. Donald was retired from the United States Navy having proudly served 30 years. Following his service in the Navy he worked many years and retired from the Naval Shipyard in Norfolk, Va., before moving to the Abingdon area.


In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers, Robert Fields and Charles Fields.


Survivors include his wife, Shirley Sue Fields; step-daughter, Rebecca Tiller and husband, Raymond; step-son, Kevin Canter and wife, Robin; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Kaylor and Charlene Glenn; and several nieces and nephews.


The family wishes to express a special thanks to Caris Healthcare for their care, kindness and compassion.


A service with military honors by the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and United States Navy Honors Team will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, February 19, 2021, at the cemetery pavilion in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Eddie Gobble, Gary Harless and Nick Shortridge will officiate the service. Face coverings and social distancing practices are required.
