Henry Wayne Hayter, 87, peacefully went to be with the Lord on April 05, 2025.
He was born on June 17, 1937 in Abingdon, VA to the late Estelle and B.E. Hayter.
Wayne never met a stranger he always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. His laugh would make you laugh. He was the best husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Wayne was a member of Abingdon Baptist Church. He owned Abingdon Bargin House on Main Street. He then was a policeman with Abingdon Police Department for over twenty years as well as serving on Abingdon’s Fire Department and Past Master of #48 Abingdon Masonic Lodge. After retirement he continued to serve the community by driving a bus for Washington County School Systems and the Abingdon Trolley. He always enjoyed being around others and meeting new people.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 59 years, Pearl Hayter; daughter, Amy Dye and husband Tim; son, Hank Hayter and wife Julia; grandchildren, Grant Dye and wife Brennan, Michal Hayter and Henry Hayter; sister, Becky Trent; also, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday April 08, 2025 at Abingdon Baptist Church with a service to follow visitation at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Bill Bryan officiating. A committal service will follow to Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
Serving as pallbearers will be Matt Hudson, Allen Hay, Greg Caldwell, Matthew Trent, Neal Trent, and Ethan Trent.
Honorary Pallbearers will be, Clark Phillips, Danny Plummer, Lee Salyers, Abingdon Police Department and Abingdon Fire Department.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made in honor of Wayne to Abingdon Baptist Church.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Shelby Olds and Fresenius Kidney Care for their wonderful care and kindness to Mr. Hayter. Â
