Jon Carty Caldwell born to Tom and Wilma Carty Caldwell on February 28, 1972, has died. Jon spent his growing up years in the wholesome community of Bethel, riding bikes and roaming the fields with his younger brother, Bracken, best friend, Charlie, and cousins, David and Will.
Jon started his school years at Bethel Elementary and then graduated with honors from Holston High School, and completed his education with graduation from UVA School of Environmental Science in Charlottesville, Virginia.
He spent memorable time in Utah following graduation from UVA; then made an adventurous move to Raleigh, North Carolina with his lifelong friend, Jamie, before setting on his path to marriage. Born to this union were daughters, Oliva and Sophia, who were the center of Jon’s universe. Fatherhood was a joyful time for Jon during which he was amazed at the wonder of watching and participating in his children’s lives before a life altering separation. The years following this were wrought with bad choices and punishment before—only several years ago-- settling back to the place where memories were gentle and space was filled with security and warmth of family in the Bethel Community.
Jon was a masterful and accomplished carpenter and a flawless painter. He was nearing the completion of his proudest accomplishment in beautiful Emory, Virginia, “Granana’s Flat,” which was also a testimony to his skill and dedication.
Left to cherish Jon’s whole being are his daughters, Olivia and Sophia; his mother, Wilma; brothers, Greg and Bracken; sisters, Kellie and Karrie. Jon is also survived by precious uncles, aunts, brothers-in-law, nieces, and cousins who helped to serve as lights and mentors.
In honor and memory of his love for life, Jon’s organs were donated so that others may live and thrive. His ashes will return to the arms of his honorable father and at the appointed time, his mother’s heart.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 5, 2025, from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at Bethel Presbyterian Church. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church, 19391 Bethel Road, Abingdon, Virginia, 24211.
Frost Funeral Home and Cremation Services is honored to serve the family of Mr. Jon Caldwell.
