Kelsey Henry Owens

Abingdon, Virginia

1961 – 2025

Kelsey Henry Owens, 63, of Abingdon, Virginia, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Washington County to the late N.H. Owens Jr. and Shirley Owens, Kelsey was a proud graduate of John S. Battle High School. He had a lifelong love of sports—running track in his youth and later playing softball for Empire Ford for 20 years. He was of the Baptist faith. Kelsey dedicated 40 years of hard work to McLane, Hackney, where he faithfully served on a sales route.

Kelsey had a true passion for baseball, especially cheering on the Cincinnati Reds. Some of his most cherished memories were attending Reds games with his grandson, Jonathon. But no team meant more to him than the ones his grandchildren played on—he was their biggest fan, always there in the stands, ready to cheer Jonathon or Alexis on.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 28 years, Peggy Owens; his parents; his brother, Ronnie Owens; and his sister, Brenda Rogers.

Kelsey is survived by brother, Carl Owens; two sisters, Shirley Trent and Kathy Ealey (Lawrence); and two grandchildren, Jonathon Tiller and Alexis Tiller (Tyler Cannon), who were the lights of his life.

He is also survived by his dear friends, Major Pounder, Beckey Freeman, and F.L.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate nurses at the Cancer Center in Abingdon, and to Caris Hospice Care for their devoted support.

A visitation will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025, at Frost Funeral Home Chapel in Abingdon, Virginia from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with service following at 7:00 P.M. with Rev. Jason Dunn and Rev. Paul Ketron officiating. Committal service will be on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at Forest Hills Memory Gardens Serenity Garden Mausoleum. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 A.M.

Pallbearers will be Ben Able, Bill Woreley, Jeff Ingle, Rick Owens, J. D. Trent, Randy Musick, and William Mead.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Cancer Center in Abingdon, Virginia.

Frost Funeral Home and Cremation Services is honored to serve the family of Mr. Kelsey Henry Owens.
