Peggy J. Humphrey Smith, age 83, of Meadowview, Va., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 30, 2018.
Peggy was a member of Harvest Fellowship Church in Meadowview, Va. She loved her flowers and to cook for her family and friends. Peggy was a lifelong resident of Meadowview and the surrounding area. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Helen Humphrey and her brother, Jackie R. Humphrey.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Tom Hurd of Hickory, NC; sons, Steven Thompson of Galax, Va., and Allen Thompson of Meadowview, Va.; grandchildren, Lori Childress Berry (Christine) of Glen Allen, Va., Kristen Childress Hogan (Robert) of Knoxville, Tenn., Ashley Allison of Meadowview, Va., Nicolette Duty (Andrew) of Bristol, Tenn., and Brooklyn Thompson of Meadowview, Va.; great grandchildren, Alyssa Hogan, Tanner Hogan, Cash Duty, Brayden Allison and great grandbaby, Hogan due in November 2018; nieces and nephews, Phala Fulks, Rodney Humphrey, J.R. “Gee” Humphrey and Michelle Greer; and several very special cousins and friends.
Many thanks go to her cousin, Shirley Atkins, who showered Peggy with lots of love and visits, especially while Peggy was in Abingdon Health and Rehab. She loved your time together!
The family would also like to express their appreciation to the staff at Abingdon Health and Rehab for their love and care for Peggy, also many thanks to all the residents and their families there who became our family too.
Visitation will be from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2018, in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Adam Wolfe officiating. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. to travel in procession to Old Glade Presbyterian Church Cemetery for a committal service at 11 a.m.
Pallbearers will be David Atkins, Larry Humphrey, Rodney Humphrey, J.R. Humphrey, Robert Hogan, Bill Humphrey and David Humphrey. Honorary pallbearers will be Alvin Dye, Talmadge “Shorty” Caudell, Everett Caudell and Jack Snavely.
