Rose Marie Holley Clifton, 83, of Abingdon, Va., went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 19, 2018, at her home.
She was born May 4, 1935, in Washington County, Va., to the late Oliver and Lottie Thomas Holley. In addition to her parents she also was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert D. Clifton; two sisters, Polly South and Hazel Bowman; one brother, Raymond Holley; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Edna and Fred Clifton; two sisters-in-law, Shelia and Mildred Holley; four brothers-in-law, Bob Briggs, Fred South, Jackie “Fuzzy” Clifton and Charles Brooks; and one special nephew, Jackie Clifton, Jr.
Marie was an employee in the operation center of the Virginia National Bank for many years. She retired from Johnston Memorial Hospital after 30 years of service in E.R. Admissions and as telephone operator. She was a member of Woodland Baptist Church.
Marie loved spending time with her family and will be remembered for her wonderful baking and sewing. She was an avid flower gardener and could often be found working in her violets.
Survivors include one son, Donald Allen Clifton and wife, Renee of Abingdon, Va.; two grandchildren, Sarah Fleenor and husband, Justin of Newport News, Va., and Bradley Allen Clifton of Abingdon, Va.; one sister, Dottie Briggs of Glade Spring, Va.; two brothers, Tom Holley of Saltville, Va., and Gene Holley and wife, Elsie of Saltville, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Roberta Clifton of Abingdon, Va., and Neta Brooks of Bristol, Tenn.; several nieces, nephews, and her special pet, Cleo.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at Frost Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., on Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Jerry A. Eggers and Rev. Carl Young officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Eugene Holley, Eddie Briggs, Tony Briggs, Dwayne South, Justin Woodby, Payne Woodby, Gabriel Woodby, Wade Ferguson, Donovan Ferguson and Chris McCarter.
The family will be gathering at the home of Donald and Renee Clifton, 676 Thompson Drive, Abingdon, Va., where friends may visit at any time.
