Thomas Lee Martin

Thomas Lee Martin, age 98, died at his home in Abingdon, Virginia on Monday, Christmas Day 2023, after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Martin was born September 12, 1925 in Surenty, Geogia to Cash Raleigh and Holland Moody Martin.

He was married to Bonnie Marie McCready September 8, 1951. They had one Child, Lee Ann Martin, who lived 31 years and died in Atlanta, Georgia in 1991.

Tom and Bonnie were married 72 years at the time of his passing.

The Martins moved to Abingdon, VA in 2005 from Atlanta where they had made their home during his time as an officer of Norfolk Southern Railways. Mr. Martin was a communications engineer and instructor with the company for 47 years.

Mr. Martin was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946.

He is survived by a devoted sister-in-law Kathleen Hedgpeth, Abingdon, Virginia.

Bonnie is grateful for the numerous loving and devoted caregivers serving Tom during his long illness.

In lieu of flowers Bonnie requests that donations be made to Mountain View United Methodist Church, 22561 Watauga Road Abingdon, Virginia, in care of Eleanor Thayer.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023, from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at Frost Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. at Forest Hills Memory Garden following visitation. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the funeral home to go in procession.
