William Kyle Reed

William Kyle Reed, age 93 passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at the Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie, Va.


Mr. Reed was born in Abingdon, Va on April 22, 1931, to the late David William Reed and Nellie Glen Ramsey Reed. 


Kyle lived most of his entire life in Abingdon except when he was called to serve his country in the United States Air Force in 1951. Mr. Reed was a faithful member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church in Abingdon, Va where he served as an elder and trustee. He was also a member of the VFW Post 6975 for many years.


In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Sarah Elizabeth Reed; one son, Gregory C. Reed; two brothers, James R. Reed, and David C. Reed; one sister, Dorothy Katherine Hagy.


Survivors include his two daughters, Katherine R. Johnson (Mac), Deborah R. Clark (Randy);one daughter-in-law, Connie Reed; seven grandchildren, Heidi Budwash (Mike), Mathew Clark (Jevona), Heather Higginbotham (G.R.), William Johnson, Lauralee Ireland (Mike), Jenner Johnson, and Charles David “Corey” Johnson (Kelsey); ten great grandchildren, Haley, Darius, Michaela, Ilissah, Isaiah, Kendall, Sadie, Stella, Basil, and Morgan; and several nieces and nephews.


A visitation will take place at the Bethel Presbyterian Church in Abingdon, Va at 10:00 A.M until 11:00 A.M. on November 9, 2024, with a service to follow at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Jim Walker officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery. 


Grandsons and grandsons in law will serve as pallbearers. 


Honorary pallbearers will be the Men of the Bethel Presbyterian Church.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude's, the Gideon's, or the Bethel Church Cemetery Fund.

Family, I grew up knowing Mr. Kyle Reed and I can honestly say there was not a better man that I knew then him. He was a gentleman in our community and will certainly be missed. Prayers for all the family in the days ahead.
